His wife was actress Dina Trianti, with whom he had two children, George and Giannis. With his later wife, journalist Georgia Kontrarou, he had a third son, Dimitris. His nephew (son of his sister) is the well-known director Vassilis Mazomenos and his first cousin is the singer and writer Dora Giannakopoulou.
