Adult Identity Card. At that time, Cheng's father had planned to arrange for Zheng to work as a bookmaker in a casino but young Cheng prefer work as a clerk in Central. A few years later, he was introduced by a friend to work as a security guard at the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui. In 1976, he enrolled in the TVB Artist Training Course No. 5 and was accepted. However, he had to return to Macau to take care of his father, who was ill, and gave up the training. After graduating from the class in 1979, he became a contracted artist with Lai Television. In 1979, he signed up as a contract artiste with Lai's TV. His first TV drama was "The Day Silkworm" in 1979.
